ok here goes

i was brought up in the east end in the 70s and 80s
spent a lot of that time exploring the disused railways
sort of an early urban explorer
( closed ones seemed more interesting than opened ones)
love the site loved exploring the forum even more
i remember loads of the places you are talking about
moved away about 15 years ago
i dont really enjoy coming back as every time i do they have
replaced something i know with a retail park!

stranger

ps my unusual claim to fame is that i was probably the last member of the public to visit glasgow cross station before they demolished it for the argyll line unless anyone knows different

dont really remember that much i was about six but mad on trains
especially the old railway behind our house ( parkhead to carmyle line)
was walking along gallowgate with my grandad one day when i saw the
doors to glasgow cross cross open and people (workmen) going in and out
i got excited and jumping up and down begged grandad to take me in
well grandad being grandad ( they can do anything you know) had a word with one of the workmen and next thing we were going in
this was before the health and safety nanny state
i remember it was all very intact inside unlike abandoned surface stations which are all pretty much destroyed the ticket office was still there and there was a big broad staircase down to the platform
all i can remember downstairs is how dark it was except the bit under the triangle that used to be open and the dark tunnelmouth leading to central
god i wish i had been older and had a camera

i also had a trip on a blue train to bridgeton centra just before they pulled
up the tracks does that make me the last passenger there too?

yet another newbie

Postby Grahame » Sun Feb 20, 2005 9:38 pm

Hi Sharon & gang;

Thought I'd better say hello by way of introduction. I finally got round to registering on here having found the site some time ago, forgotten about it, and rediscovered it again. Great site!
I was born and brought up in Knightswood more years ago than I care to remember. Went to Knightswood Primary and then Allan Glen's followed by drama college at QMU in Edinburgh. I've lived around the UK and travelled the globe as a lighting designer/techie. Have lived in the West End for 20 years now (just round from Cottiers) and love finding out obscure Glasgow facts. And I like to think I'm somewhat of a repository of obscure Glasgow facts myself. Looks like this is the place to be!

Signum, I really liked your film - very spacey. I hadn't heard anything about the Ballet moving to Trongate - last I heard they were looking at the Tramway space?

Sharon - oh yes, I enjoyed reading the threads about the Molendinar dowsing expedition. I should mention that I am also a dowser and geomancer, so if you're planning any other trips like that, give me a shout. 8)

Welcome to HG Grahame :)

I still have my dowsing rods in the boot of my car, although its true to say I haven't had then out again since then. But I went form being a disbeliever in dowsing to trying it and discovering (under strict and controlled conditions of course) i actually got accurate results!!!

I'm not sure what a geomancer is though, perhaps you can elaborate a little....????

And yes, this is the place to be ;)

I would of course say that though...

Thanks for the welcome! Geomancy is the art of placing structures on the earth so that they take advantage of and are in harmony with the energies of the earth. It involves both the placement and design of sacred space like labyrinths, medicine wheels and stone circles up to and including gothic cathedrals (although I think an advanced degree in architecture would also be needed for that one nowadays!); and the maintenance and space-clearing of existing secular structures like houses and offices. This basically involves rectifying earth energies and ghostbusting. In short, it's like Western feng-shui.
I should have posted The Geomancy Group website in the first post and saved myself all this typing....

Does this save a lot on the electricity bill?

Oh all right I'm a long time lurker with a major hang up with industrial archeology I've been following old railway lines since it was not fashionable( has it ever been?) I love all sorts of old shit and local history. I want aall of Glasgow to be safe from people who think that listed buildings are a MERE incinveniance. then again if you unbuild it flats will come. As a long term protestor against more homes than we can support I will continue to support the rights of my children to a proper education. :P

Howdy folks!

Yet another case of a long-time lurker, first time poster.....even though I appear to have joined a fair while ago.....although my joining date coincides with the start of the year at uni, so maybe it's hardly surprising I can't remember....

Anyways, been reading for a long while, and have decided to start making contributions finally!

Anything you need to know, just ask, I won't bite........too hard.... :D
If at first you don't succeed, then it just aint worth doing then, is it???
