I noticed in the other thread, that Edinburgh was getting a few good comments. Edinburgh would the best place in Scotland.

If it was in the west and filled with Glaswegians.

Filling aplace with Weegies!?!?!? The thought alone... 8O

I'm sorry to disappoint you...but it WAS a nice town to grow up in about 30 years ago but the High Street has progressively deterioriated as it's probably 'too easy' to get into Glasgow to shop; some areas have become dumping grounds for problem families from elsewhere, there's no decent pubs, most investment from East Dunbartonshire Council seems to be directed toward Bearsden/Milngavie and even Rob Roy ain't what they used to be.

However, they are building a Leisure Centre (overdue by about 35 years) and they've cleaned up the canal a bit since adopting the 'Canal Capital of Scotland' label. Oh. There are nice views of the Campsies.

Maybe if they annexed Hillhead.

Sorry to say that Kirkie Main St is a bit down at heel just now. Maybe 10 years ago had the flavour of a small town. Now walkin down the main drag you could just as easily be in Duke St ,Saracen Street etc.

Not really surprising folk are abandoning the main street in preference to Retail parks and shopping centres like the Fort/Forge as the parking in the town centre is dissapointing.instead of one decent car park you get to drive round 3 or 4 smaller peripheral places conga like hoping to get a space. Not always succesfully.

Ohh....see the old town hall is still got that horrible hair net on.

I am just back from a fabulous holiday in Scotland but like Doonunda, I might be romanticising as I haven't lived there for 22 years  . Here's my list (by no means exhaustive)

GLASGOW!!! Edinburgh, Stirling, Larkhall (hey! I have family there), Inverness, Stornoway, Gearrannan village( heaven ) , Aberdeen ....

...and can I put in a wee word for Ardrossan (too scared to post on worst town thread  ) Grey it might be but it was the start of many a wonderful holiday to Arran!
