It'll have to go in the inevitable "worst village in Scotland" thread, but whilst my gran still lives there I'll not hear a word against it.

That would have to be Patna anyway.... :D

I never thought I'd do this but I need to defend Cumbernauld too. It has a god awful town centre with a lack of facilities but really thats all thats really wrong with it.

Now Ardrossan, I felt pretty depressed going through there. It was a ghost town :(

Why all the bus stuff? Why 90% of Random Distractions? Why Dexter St Clair???. These things just happen when you open a forum to the public...

People seem to have an interest in crap towns - there's an annual award, even book a few years ago.

Nice to know the bus thread is on a par with Random Distractions

There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference in most Scottish towns (and large parts of Glasgow). They all have the same drab housing styles (private & council).
The grey & white 70's/80's boxy modern look, and the ever encroaching Barratt style orangy brick :(

I'm sorry that you have decided to take offence as well. My only point, and with no personal opinion being specified, was that some people wiil find that some threads have more pertinence than others. I see little point in questioning why people are talking about a wide range of topics on an open (and rather broad) forum.

Back on topic, I drove through Grangemouth the other weekend on the way to Bo'ness railway. It was pretty grim. I guess there must be high paid jobs at the Refinery, as I can't think of any other reason to live there...

I'll second that. I used to live in Neilston, which was bad enough!

I didn't take that big an offence ::):

My sis used to live near Grangemouth (shudder). Yet another grim place with standard issue houses.

My worst town vote.....Paisley :)

Obviosly never been to Whitehurst in Bersden. What a fuckin dump. A pub surronded by council tenants who have a major chip on their shoulders . I knew a guy from there who got caught shagging his sister then his mum chucked him. And his brother was really his father. Could not pay me to live there. No chance. Full of "aw right ma man " mob.
Thank you. And why not.

That story doesn't sound quite so believable! ::):

But I have to agree, it's a shithole. Only time I've walked through there was when we wanted to get a chase from some neds years ago.

It's got to be Peterhead.

It is dire.

It was awful even before the decline of fishing harmed the local economy.

Pish shops-More Store, tiny Argos & an H.Samuel (where everyone presumably buys their "creoles" or sovreigns) & that's it.

No decent pubs, places to eat, places of interest.

Loads of "spam valley" type houses, pebble dash everywhere!

Also, there is a highly religious element to the place that is a bit freaky. There are loads of these weird new-age churches with some bloke that has just appointed himself as "pastor" & demands that his followers give 9 tenths of their income & their dughter's virginity.Zionist Tabernacle anyone?

BTW I'm not from there!
