If they invented a time machine, what part of Glasgow's history would you go visit?

I would love to travel back, when shipbuilding was at it's peak, I would particularly like to go back and see this ship being launched!

I would do anything to walk around that ship....anything, well I suppose I could always go for a dive in the wreck!

60's - when my grandad was still in the GC electrical dept. at Coplawhill etc.etc.
I never saw trolleybuses run. I still can't see why they're not an option over trams that are stuck in rails. Trolley bendy-buses! No pollution in the street and able to move about unlike the trams. Why not. G.Ken?

To a time when the building of the M8 through the city could have been stopped. Prevent the heart of the city being ripped apart

I don't really know the south side too well, so I'd stick to the north. Anywhere before the M8 was built. Love to see the old gorbals, Cowcaddens, Maryhill at the bit where I live, the subways, the train stations, all the football grounds before redevelopment. I could spend weeks wandering round the city!

St Enoch station, 1930s and again in the 1950s. Bliss. :D

I'd nip back and get a job as Thomas Annan's camera assistant.

I'd like to go back to the 40's-50's, see what all the shops looked like and what they sold. I love looking at the street pictures in the Virtual Mitchell and wondering what it'd be like to see it all for real, in colour.

I'd also like to take a ride on a tram and the subway as it used to be.

Glasgow's past Where would you go.

Maryhill in the 1950's when the trams screamed their way up the Maryhill road. When fun was having a McCallum in the Melrose Cafe or talent hunting in Dawsholm Park and playing tennis in Maryhill park. When the pop world was just emerging with Lonnie Donniegan, Elvis, Bill Haley and Pat Boone and when kids didn't vandalise the places where they lived.
The Locarno dance hall and the NAFFI club in Buchanan St.

I'd go back to 2002. Straight into Ladbrokes and stick on a £5,000 double on Gretna being in the UEFA Cup in 4 years time and the Science Centre tower still being gubbed.

I'd go back to Christmas time in the 1950's to see the Copeland's window display and then nip to the bookies to put £10 on England winning the '66 world cup and not shutting up about it since. ;)
