Odd.

It is still there, honestly.

Looks like your browser is pointing to http://intl.local.live.com instead of http://local.live.com

Does it automatically re-direct there? What ISP you with?

My father-in-law gets that with Firefox but its ok in IE, although another machine connected through the same router can get it properly with Firefox.

His ISP is BT btw.

Ah.

Having looked at the javascript on that page, http://intl.local.live.com is the redirect for unsupported browsers.

Try upgrading to the latest version of Firefox, seems to work ok with that.

It could be that a plugin or toolbar (Yahoo Toolbar?) has changed the browser's User Agent to make it appear incompatible.

Google Earth really does have a rival now, and you should find that you're being offered the Virtual Earth 3D option download when you fire up Windows Live Local.

Now gives the same sort of view and fly around in Microsoft's offering as Google Earth does.

Only runs under IE6 or 7.

For those that like to live in Firefox, you can run IE as a tab in Firefox if you install IE Tab, including install apps that only run in IE:

Help Apollo, i've downloaded the IE tab for Firefox, it seems to be running ok, but the Live Local just keeps loading, nothing happens. How long does it take to load once started ?

I've now tried the Live Local 3D in Mozilla IE Tab, and IE itself, but it just keeps loading, and nothing happens :(

It takes forever

I downloaded and installed Fx2 in a couple of minutes. Not even needing a reboot.

Both IE7 and the 3D VE add-on took around 20 minutes each, and reboot.

I was about to give up on both, but decided to leave them alone, having been caught out before.

Incidentally, the 3D addon downloaded an installer file to my PC named VirtualEarth3D.msi and I had to run this to complete the install. The info window that accompanied the install also popped up a message to the effect that it thought the install was taking a long time.

Maybe better not to do silly things like I do sometimes, and not try installing the thing fromt he Fx tab, and use IE to be safe.

Is the new Virtual Earth fucked already ? I tried it the other day, and it was fine, but now there's just a blank white screen.

If you're talking about "Windows Live Local", I can't get it to run on Internet Explorer, goes to the page but, as you say, a white screen where the map should be. Running fine on Firefox though.
