And as usual it's another clone sliver building.

(Honest I haven't just knocked this together in photoshop, that's the pic in the paper)

The 'Times also mentions an 11th hour rescue bid by a developer for Linn Park Mansion House, and a story about demonstrations against 'A bit off the top' barbers in Paisley. Cannae find weblinks for them though.

Coincidence, I was just walking past here yesterday and wondering what they'd put there.

I was hoping for something with at least a curved concave corner like the building opposite. I reckon Glasgow developers should take a look at the Royal Mile where there's been a few new buildings seamlessly and sympathetically blended in with the old. I don't see how the new building 'has been designed to relate to the existing setting' at all, especially seeing as there was a 'Greek' Thomson building there before.
Always looking up...

This is a joke, right :?: a true carbuncle if ever I saw one. I'll soon change my views on public hanging if this goes ahead

I agree - that's one of the worst new building designs I've seen in ages.

what the hell are those cars up to - has the silver one just cut straight across the path of the white and blue cars? there's obviously something majorly wrong with this box junction - is this an intended side-effect of this development?

personally, i actually like this bit of space. compare and contrast this building with the existing one to the right of it in that artist's impression - which one will still be standing in say 30 years time?

just to clarify, i mean i like it as it is just now, not once they've built this generic development on top of it

My God you are joking!!!!

Whatever next? I cannot believe Glasgow City Council have passed this - it looks completely ridiculous next to the tolbooth and is hardly inkeeping with the surrounding buildings.

What the hell are they doing? First they try to turn George Square into red square and now this?

Another case of someone drunk in charge of a drawing board (not just you Foss!) but your version shows it for how ridiculous this is.
Hope is an indulgence for which I have little time.

I agree with you all... what a load of bollox!
Although I would like to add that we're all free to lodge our objections at the planning department where they shall endeavour to transcribe it onto thier pads, photocopy it and file it for future reference  ::):

The site as it is is atrocious I think! It's just a hing oot for all the alchy and junkie bastards of the day! Something should be done! I've got nothing against a piece of modern architecture being sited there, but not something thats been regurgetated so many times that it looks nothing more than architectural bile! The "glass box" concept has a lot to friggin answer for :x  :x  :x

Fossy... that design is class! The Crankees are a great touch!! ::): ::):

This is of the cross in the late 1850'6

The Tolbooth was demolished in the 1920's, and the medievil steeple was only saved after it was agreed to curve the facade of the new building to ease the flow of traffic into High St... a theme I also would like to see continued on the other side.

I also remember a while back a proposal to build a high rise, luxury apartment development atop McChuills in High St, never heard anything more tho
