There's a film on telly just now called BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, directed by Bill Eagles and released in 2000. It seems to be a Glasgow set version of THELMA AND LOUISE. It doesn't show up when I search the board, but suspect it would be filed under "gritty".

You do realise that the longer this thread goes on, the less chance
you've got of getting a "Glasgow" film without, squalor, neds or
gangsters. :oops:

UNLEASHED? But it's got gangsters in it too. So far it looks as though the only contender is THE MAGGIE, only the first ten minutes of which are set in Glasgow.

Most the rest is shot on the Crinan Canal and Isaly.

"A Man Called Peter" during the first part of the film had a min. or so with great shots of the Govan dry docks and surrounding area. That image etc is now gone forever except in film.

Incidentally what was the name of the play for today play set in the 70s, about the 2 boys who became friends, they had older relatives who were leaders of rival gangs? One of the boys was called 'Gorbals'

Just spotted this in an obituary of Bert Cooper

Floodtide, the great feature film of 1949 set against shipbuilding on the Clyde which greatly enhanced the burgeoning careers of Jimmy Logan and Gordon Jackson (not to mention John Laurie, Janet Brown, Ian Wallace and Molly Weir), featured scenes shot in Glasgow's Barrowland ballroom owned and run by the famous Maggie McIver, with the resident band, Billy McGregor and the Gaybirds, of which Bert Cooper was a member. Cooper also composed the song Isn't It a Lovely Thought sung at the piano in the film by Logan.
