I've known a couple of likeable lads get drawn into this business because they were bored and thought it might bring some excitement to their lives. Both were easily led. Both were stitched up. Both were sent down for three years. Both were broken men thereafter.

The PGB Peel Glen Boys were a better class of ned. One up from the Buck who
seemed to disappear when the Hill team appeared. Was it really so long ago?
Late 60s I recall.However most of the kids were from Kingsridge (Hill team)
and Waverly (PGB). That is my "perception" now from more than 40 years ago.
I think the St Pius kids just mucked in with either lot.

my gran and grandad stayed on shields road in glasgow(mums mum and dad) and we used to go and stay for the weekend or just me and mum for a week during the holidays
i dont remember hearing about any gang fights but do remember that "TONGS YA BASS" was spray painted on the bridge over the general terminus railway line i expect its been removed by now as this was in the 60's/70's
the only other story ive heard about was from a member on here who told me that the pub in watt street was a celtic supporters pub and sometimes there were clashes with rangers fans
this story came about when i was asking if anyone remembered anyone getting chased and leaping the railway wall not realising it was a 25 ft drop on the other side apparently the police were chasing someone involved in a fight at the pub along wallace grove and he leapt the railway wall thinking he could escape (sorry for going off topic here)

"TONGS YA BASS" was spray painted virtually everywhere even remotely scheme-y within a thirty mile radius of Glasgow.

As was {first initial of local district}YT OK!!

most of the houses in that area ie paisley road/watt street/shields road and on every street right down to cessnock were tenement blocks as opposed to being housing schemes

The other common painted tags were " xxxx Derry" "xxxx Fleet". You put in your street/area/location.
It was often "Y" ie "Young XXXX Fleet" etc. I wonder what happened to the "Old" Fleet. What sort
of subsect were the "Y" "Young Fleet". I recall "Gringo" in the Parkhead area. The most bizarre thing I heard from these days was a couple of Bearsden youths caught spray painting a Drummie Derry tag on a Courthill/Bearsden wall. When questioned by the polis they said "Well we know we did it but we did not want our mates to know we did it so that the kids from the Drum would get the blame anyway as they always get the blame and we could arrange a good fight as its in our territory".

in a scotch and wry sketch set in an operating theatre ricki fulton says nurse will u give me the forceps and john bet says to him sir charles nurse baxter comes from glasgow riki fulton then says" tongs ya bass" to the nurse
