I pass this on the bus all the time and often wonder about it. The building is all closed up, but obviously the stone signage remains. Can anyone enlighten me about it? Yorkhill has been the kids hospital for as long as I know, my dad worked there in the 60s/70s before they left Glasgow, so was there once a childrens hospital in the city centre somewhere?

1955 Yorkhill doctor, Dr Arneil treats his first baby chimp! Carmen, a star performer at Kelvin Hall is diagnosed with pneumonia. She is prescribed an oxygen tent, an antibiotic and a warm airy room. She is nursed in a dressing room by her trainers. Carmen was brought under cover to the X-Ray department that was undertaken by Dr Rawson. Carmen escapes and saunters off down the corridors of RHSC only to come across a very cross senior nursing officer!

This timeline is quite interesting actually!

Is it currently in use? Meant to ask this ages ago, as I went past one night and saw lights on. Sure enough, there was lights on about half an hour ago too. Where is the entrance to it?

I think it may be used by the Art School. Maybe not permanently, but maybe for student projects. Maybe you could chap the window and ask.

I thought that as well, not sure if I was told it or if I just made it up.

As for finding an entrance, have you tried the traditional method of circumnavigating the building and looking for a door?

No, I don't mean it like that, just that I'm not around that area by foot very often. Last time I was there was probably when I visited the tenement house when I was about 6. I usually get the bus or tube into town and back to the west end.

I have only once ever walked from town to the west end. It took me an hour and a quarter, in the most hellish rain ever, to walk from the Shack to Kirklee. It did include two stops for chips, but I don't plan to do it ever again! It's kinda put me off doing it in daylight and nice weather too!
