In view of Fossy's above post, I should be heading to a darkened room.

I saw a train cross the bridge (gallowgate bridge) on Saturday afternoon about half 4.... how else do you shift trains from Sheildhall to cowlairs without going round the toon?

24 Hour gaurds arent for stopping you pinching rubble... its to stop you pinching JCBs worth lots of money... or to stop you climbing illegally onto the site, tripping over, bust a leg then sue the company for letting you break into the site.

McShad, irrespective if there is a guard on site or not, if someone breaks into a property or site which is reasonably secured they can of course try to sue but it would not get very far.

There have been tragic cases in the past where children have broken into unguarded sites and been killed but there has been no case to answer by the contractor.

Same bit of railway as shown in Alycidon's pic but from a different perspective.

Pic was taken from beside an old abandoned siganlbox in the toon.

What a great picture. I'd always assumed that section of line was dead straight,
but clearly not. The red brick tenement in the far distance - that's the one at
the bottom end of Stockwell Street, yes?

I think your right James, I had to fire up Google Earth to see how it was in relation to the Mercat building.

Whilst on the subject of the City Union IIRC there was a derailment on this stretch of line in the mid to late 80's near the former Cumberland Street station and for various reasons the train was left in situ for some considerable time while engineers fathomed how to re-rail it... or maybe I just dreamt it :?: :? ::):

Hight Street goods yard

Postby Pgcc93 » Tue Feb 21, 2006 12:01 pm

Hight Street goods from Barrack Street c.1960's with College Goods in the left distance. The tall warehouses now converted into flats.

The sig-box looks in better nick back then.

About 2 hours ago I nearly missed this unindentified 156 rumble northwards.

The Royal Scotsman went across at 11 this morning. Unfortunately I was too awestruck to get my camera out...
