I imagine kids can sneak on every so often and use a pitch for a bit, free of charge, if no one is on, but are you really arguing that this is better than having pitches they can just muck about on any time they want for free?

Even in the time when these pitches were being used for Saturday League games I have never seen kids voluntarily playing on them. They are Red Ash, Blaes, a skin peeling surface with no redeeming features.

They have been using them as overspill car parking for years as I also previously mentioned. Let me add there were no complaints when they did this.

I refer to my letter above as to where they do play amongst other bits of the park.

You come on here like Ron Manager of the Fast Show with your and your love of the red ash. Only he's got a better grasp of reality.
'It's a far cry from small boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts. Isn't it? Mmmmm. Marvellous.'

We used to get chased by the parkie when we played football in the park. Thats why we stuck to the back lanes.

As teenagers we quite often played fives indoors at Bellahouston. Was in there one time and we had half the gym and Rangers were using the other half (the gym made up two 5-a-side pitches).

I think we all played blinders that day. never did get the call though.

Red Ash or Blaes is nasty horrible usually contaminated stuff some of it would burn the rubber off your tyres never mind play football on the stuff!

Build the Car Park i say! :)

Plenty off lush green parks in Glasgow. Enough to go around.

Build the Car Park i say! - Just don't build it on the Sooside

Many a happy hour spent playing Ultimate Frisbee at Victoria Park on a Sunday afternoon when I was at Uni.

Shame to see it go.

Scotstoun is indeed a great facility, as Sharon says, but there's nothing quite like getting some mates together in the park for a quick kick/throwaround. The dear green place is making it dear to play on the green places, though ::):

For those of us who don’t want to see this part of Victoria Park obliterated, what can we do?

Do we individually contact Jean McFadden, as councillor for Scotstoun, or Liz Cameron herself?

Liz Cameron is merely the Lord Provost. Jean McFadden is councillor for Scotstoun and I think Eamon Fitzgerald (Hayburn) and Irene Graham have adjacent wards.

John Lynch is convenor of Cultural and Leisure services who are responsible for the leisure centre.

I would be outraged if these pitches were dug up. I played a blinder for the BB on this pitch. I was the weeist kid on the park and played like wee Jinky. Even the other team plus the manager all shook my hand. I am quite sure hundreds of us have good memories of places in and around Glasgow that end up being wiped off the face of the Earth. Stinks of a councillor getting a wee cheeky back hander again. Does anybody Know about a demonstration. AGes since I have been to one.

Insted of writing shite on a messag board you could have been demonstrating outside of the City Chambers today along with people whose jobs are at risk, people losing services and probably nobody worried about a bit of red blaes currently used only for dog turds and parked cars being made into a car park so as they can build more facilities at Scotstoun.

One of the disadvantages of not being a councillor or working for the council

Sentimental for Red Blaes.

And so have the punters who've been reading the previously signposted Budget proposals and were not distracted by the tree Hugging, Tunnel loving sentimental tosh about a bit of Red Blaes.
They actually got aff their arses and did a bit more than bleat on Hidden Glasgow.

You could have had a letter into the Evening Times. I do believe they accept emails and although you do have to give your real name they will hide it if you want it. But hey it's more fun on here. Completely ineffective fun but.

It seems that the red blaes pitches have become high profile and it's not just me who thinks they have value.

Hey Dex I would rather hug a tree than hug some of your mates at Glasgow district council. The one that was talking all the crap used to play at right back for the Greenock Stank lifters. The hairs on her chest stopped down at her balls.
