Hi gordon, where did you get that one from?
I was beginning to think there were no photos of the Rio Bearsden.
Bye for now, Norrie

Thanks to the very nice people at the Scottish Screen Archive, we're now able to add some new photos of a few long demolished cinemas to the cinema website:

First up in Glasgow are the Arcadia, the Camphill, the Dennistoun Picture House, the Govan Cinema, Scott's Electric Theatre and the Western.

See here for details and actual pics, and you too can see "Shettleston's Merry Children at Scott's Happy Matinee" !

There are a lot of other stunning images from the same source that we're planning on adding in the near future too...

Thats exactly as I remember it from when I was growing up. My mum always told me it was full of "bad drunk men". :)

That's now called 'The Up & Down Club' or something like that, I played in it for Radio One when it was still The Clada.

BB Cinerama / Odeon Eglinton Toll

Opened 1922; closed 1981.

Above the door was this rather nice carved crest and globe:

Completely demolished in 1986.

July 2007: the site is being cleared an excavated once again to put up new flats.

Look what turned up!

[Many thanks to Rod Alexander for the photos!]

Had no idea that place existed! What a fabulous find!!

I was rooting about down at the site of Thomsons Queens park terrace last year and noticed some substantial, and also not so, lengths of stone under the decades of plant growth... must be some detail still survives amongst it all.

I noticed one of the yards of CBC Stone in Ibrox has several pallets of numbered red sandstone of aged quality... can't remember how long they've been there and I've walked by them countless times

I'm sorry to interrupt this thread with a seemingly random request but, does anyone have a photograph of the old Rio cinema in Bearsden?

Ive been trying to convince some of the "young 'uns" at work there was indeed a picture hall there .. all to no avail.

Some proof would be nice.
