ship launch

Postby Pgcc93 » Thu Mar 25, 2004 10:30 am

Good Friday is the 9th April. They usually launch at high tide. A quick look at my tide computer and high tide on that day is 16.00 @ Greenock, so it'll be high tide at Glasgow about 25mins later around 16.25. That'll be roughly the launch time I would reckon. They might do it a bit sooner though as this will give them time to dock the ship after launch with the water still rising..

this is the ship on the slipway.

As far as i could gather it was a case of call the number and ask for them to send you tickets.

Ship launches are great. I was at the launch of the Mirabella V, the world's largest single-masted yacht, at the Vosper Thorneycroft shipyards in Southampton, late last year. My father was the Director of Production for VT Ships at the time.

I have photos of the launch on my server at home. Once my modem's replaced (some time next week) I'll paste the links.

Mirabella

Re: Mirabella. Wow! thats awesome. I thought Simon Le Bons old yacht 'Drum' was massive. This dwarves it. Friends of mine bought a 50ft Moody last year and I was impressed with the room on that, wait till I show them this, they'll be impressed. If not a little put out ::):

It's a definite ego-killer if people compare it to boats that they own :>

Anyone going to the Naval show this year, down on the south? Or it may be next year, I can't remember. It's to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar. Apparently most of the Royal Navy will be there, along with some Nimitz-class aircraft carriers from the USA. Most European navies will be contributing their flagships. All at once, off the south of England.

I know I'll be there.

Looked like a normal large sailing yacht until you see the folks standing on the deck! It's that big it's almost obscene :)
