Calling all iGricers....

If you're interested http://www.railcam.uk/site/watch.php has just installed a webcam at Swanage Station on the heritage Swanage railway, to complement the one they already have at Corfe Castle. And I believe this weekend sees a diesel gala take place. Warships, Cromptons, Gronks, Peaks and so on will abound. Browse on Click in and Grice out!

Did the tour today, excellent way to pass an hour or so. won't post my pics as they aren't any different from Dave's.

Paul that runs the tours was both informative and enthusiastic, and gave us some info on things that might happen later in the year. He is hopeful that they can continue clearing the Victorian platform, and lay new tracks into it so they can put a vintage coach in there, and that this could be underway in the next 5-6 months. More immediately, they are going to reinstate the rooftop tour, but as a standalone tour this time rather than part of a bigger tour. This is because of the time it takes to get up and down from the roof.

They are also in the process of painting a mural in the area that was used as a mortuary during WW1, which should be finished in the next couple of weeks. This will be finished off with a plaque to the memory of all the women of Glasgow who suffered during the war. All the info will be on the website as and when it happens.

One stat he gave out, when they did the first tour as part of Doors Open Day 3 years ago they had 100 tickets available. They received 82,500 applications!

Looking for some advice please.

Knowing that there are a few railway folk on here I was hoping somebody could give me some advice on taking my bike to Edinburgh for the day.

On the Scotrail website it has a generic message that says I need to book to have my bike stored in the guards van but is this the same on the Glasgow to Edinburgh trains? I have taken it down to Ayr and there was a space in the carriage for bikes and as the Glas-Edin trains are similar I was hoping I could just arrive and buy a ticket.

If I need to I will buy in advance but hoping I can hold out until the weather situation for whatever day I go is guaranteed.

Many thanks if you can help,

Dave.

I go through to Edinburgh by train fairly regularly and there's almost always at least one bike hanging on the wee forky things in the carriages, often more. No idea about ticketing and such though, sorry.

Turn up and go, although avoid travelling at peak times with a bike as space is limited

As a quick update, bike on the train was a piece of cake allthough a bit of a scramble and wouldnt like to try it on a really busy day.

I have been going through more old VHS tapes and I found a lot of footage from railway visits in the late 90's.

I will get more edited up in time but for now, here is a dramatic* clip of 60532 Blue Peter passing through Troon station at speed.

At long last... Plans for a brand new railway up the Great Glen to link Fort William with Inverness; the first time trains will have run along this route since the late, great Invergarry & Fort Augustus.

... Mountain and loch echoing to the clickety-clack of steel wheel on rail (if you listen very, very carefully.)

I finally got around to editing all the footage of Blue Peters visit. Starts off with it climbing over Beattock then finds it at Falkland yard in Ayr for refueling.

Lochaber Light Railway aka the Auld Puggy Line, was still operating in the '70's, ran from the Sea Pier at Fort William to the Loch Laggan dam.

Evening,

Not sure if this sketch from the olden times is of
interest, but shall post - read or delete.

As a ten year old, just assumed that this would
be a standard feature of life - regular open days at
our railway depots - not so.
Never visited another one & it's 2018 now !
But did see Union of South Africa at a
Leuchars Air Show once.

Not any more - remember when we were good ?
