Explosions

Heard a number of big bangs up here in Eaglesham around 12 noon, sounded like a demolition job somewhere in the south side of Glasgow. Anybody closer to the action?

Yes I heard it in Burnide, sounded pretty massive and sustained. I thought it was in the direction of Cathkin, but I agree it could have been elsewhere in the Southside. There's been a lot of SLC council house demolition going on in Cathkin for some time now... maybe it's something like that.

Was it this lot?

That must've been one of the largest demolitions the city has had in a long time woulda been impressive to watch that lot come down! 8)

I'm sure new HG member [paul ferrie] will post up some pics on here or over at SSC.

::): Come on! More are staying up than coming down, but around 100 are being demolished.

Brilliant website John!!!
I'm not too happy with many of the proposed regeneration schemes though :? Most seem to follow the same tired architectural 'luxury flats' style we've seen so often over the past few years.

Well the proposed blocks for the old granary site are bloody terrible, I thought what had already been built alongside the SECC was bad enough :x
But, some of the commercial, & transport projects are interesting.

I suppose i'd like to see a few more curves, domes, and detail in those buildings, there's an awful lot of squares, and boxes to look at
