I just seen a pic of this old moto,and it got me to tinking about coming home from school in the 70s with a brown coloured mug with this on it,cant quite remember what it was all in aid of though, anyone any thoughts ideas even a pic let me know...cheers

eh? i'm not sure we can talk about our asian friends like that , but is it a pic of the motto or what it means your after ?
Most web sites in search can give you the story , it's quite amusing really .

erm... i think it was a beige tanny kind of porcelain cup<large>...i know what the motto is ,i was just trying to remember what the occasion was if there was one.

I have one similar to what your saying , but mine says maniken cigars , it dates to around then.
I think it was just how people advertised at that time , like now they give away cheap radios or pens , in the 70's it was coffee mugs and key rings.
I'd think if you spent a day at the barras you'd probably find out what it was all about if you speak to the traders , who are a very valuble source of info mate on all things glasgow.

I also vaguely remember being given a mug to commemorate the 800th anniversary of glasgow. Lost it years ago. Would like to get my hands on another one.

Anyone else remember this?

still got my mug, No reasonable offer refused
I'm sure we got one for the queens silver jubilee as well

It was to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the founding of Glasgow. I managed to smash mine on the way home from School.

At the time of the Glasgow 800 celebrations there was a Corporation bus painted yellow with the 800 logo on it, at one time I had a picture of it in Byres Road, I'll see if I can find it.
