Favourite Glasgow Photo Port Dundas: Andrew MacDonald

Can't explain why really, but I think this is an excellent portrait of industrial Glasgow and an outstanding photo in its own right. What an exciting (and dangerous!) playground this must have been for our parents and grandparents. Does this part of Glasgow still look like this?

Oscar Mazzaroli

Have to agree Germistonguy, this is one of the most enduring pics that he took of Glasgows industrial past. The Pinkston Power Station cooling tower must have looked very imposing on the city skyline.

Need to check out what now stands in place of the old power station.
Does anyone have any ideas?.

Sort of. The massive power station funnel is gone, but some of those
small buildings still remain, I believe.

I lived for a while in the multis at Roystonhill, just after they were built. Such an excellent view of the city from that high up, but as a child you don't think to take photos. Pinkston Tower was part of the view. I remember it being blown up. (can't remember the date though ~ any ideas?). What a rumble that created!

I'll hazard a guess at 1971-72? I have a very vague memory of it still standing, but I was about 3yo at the time. I have this image of a Mickey Mouse poster or something Disney related adorning the cooling tower prior to its demolition. Maybe I just dreamt it though.? Well, I was very young at the time :D . Must be a pic archived from the day it was demolished somewhere.
Maybe our man Turbozutek can check the press image files database?, he's our media man when it comes to this sort of thing!.

I think I boo-bood when I said Oscar Marzaroli (in the title) ~ this picture might have been taken by Andrew MacDonald

No worries germistonguy, we'll get this sorted and amend the title caption in due course. We strive to give as accurate details as possible. Had me duped into thinking it was an Oscar pic also. To err is to be human after all :D

I'll go for McDonald. Unless proven otherwise.

Just found this http://www.tones.demon.co.uk/Mac/ Andrew MacDonald, Scottish Photographer, so I am going for Macdonald. The site has the Spiers Wharf piccie and a few others. Have had a scout round for any other info on this guy. Can't find anything yet.
