Anyone got any pictures or stories from any era of the Virginia Galleries? I've got many fond memories of spending my Saturdays in there, buying second-hand sci-fi books from Obelist and then going to have a gab with Kenny in Whiplash Records. A great place to hang about and meet your mates.

Now, of course, sadly demolished. If the rumours are correect, it was caused by Marks and Spencer building next door to it and disturbing the foundations. Allegedly.

There was a tattoo/piercing parlour in there, I went with my friend many times while he got himself decorated. It's been gone for about 4 years now, hasn't it?

Yeah, it was shut VERY suddenly because huge cracks appeared in the walls. I seem to recall the traders weren't allowed in for quite some time to get their stock because the whole building was structurally unsound.

Then it lay empty for a good few years before it was demolished suddenly and without any warning.

yea I remember that. We went in one week, and next week it was all boarded up. Then I heard it was subsiding or something, I never did find out exactly what happened.

Thanks for that.

It was demolished sometime last year I think.

It was claimed that it was safer to demolish it. For safer read "cheaper".
