My house !!

Postby smartie » Tue Jul 19, 2005 2:29 pm

I live in Pollokshaws road. While I was in the attic trying to locate a leak, i noticed there are lots of pulleys and wires joined onto some of the rafters. My old man reakons these were used for servant bells. This however would suggest that my house was not originally in the layout that it is now.

When I was at the peoples palace exhibition, i noticed that the exhibit with the "Single end" is virtually identical to the layout of my current kitchen. i.e. recess bed, stone block where AGA used to be etc... Does anyone know where I could find original plans of my house or if anyone knows about these properties on Pollokshaws road and their history...

Additionally, there are holes in the wall outside my close that would suggest there were Brass plates up at some point.

Any info appreciated.......

Erm, I wont pretend to be fully fimiliar with Pollokshaws Road but is it possible that these holes and brass plates were for tram cabling... Perhaps though it was just lighting (gas lanterns perhaps) or something decorative.

Try looking it up in the 1927 post office directory

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... x-glas.htm

Maybe the brass plates were for a doctor's sign or something.
