Before someone jumps on me from a virtual great height, I have tried the search facility!! :D

Anyhoo, I'm sure I saw a picture somewhere on here that showed Parkhead Station, the one that was in East Whitby Street. But I can't find it anywhere. And there again, it might not have been on here at all!

If anyone knows where it might be, can you post the link!!!!

Ta!

Cheers. That wasn't the picture I was thinking of, but it's a cracker nonetheless!

Beeching closed the Neilston-Uplawmoor stretch of line, but they have left space, even with a gap and intact, if buried bridges, in a housing estate in Neilston, for it to be put back in service. They do sometimes plan ahead.

Where did they leave the cash to re-install the line(s) Comrade??

Im sure they didnt leave any, but if car transport becomes more problematic in the future a lot of lines like the Neilston-Uplawmoor one will probably be rebuilt, using cash that would be made from heavy use of the railways.
SPT is already opening up former lines like the one to Larkhall due to rising and quite unexpected demand.

Was a gap left at the Parkhead line so it could be rebuilt or is it now covered with modern developments

The site of the station itself is completely filled in. There's some evidence of the tunnel on the west side of Springfield Road. Further east, there's bits of land where the line clearly ran but I think there's a whole load of buildings etc further on that would need to go before this line ran again.

The link from Bridgeton to Carmyle via Parkhead and Tollcross was part of the original proposals that led to the reopening of the line from Rutherglen to Whifflet, but the project was scaled back and the Whifflet trains routed into Central High Level.
The route was severed completely when the M74 extension from Glasgow Zoo to it's existing end at Fullarton Road Junction was built.

as for beeching, it's over and done with now - once it's gone, it's gone :(

I do feel that railway land, once they close the land there should be some ruling that prevents development for 30 years. That way, after20 years when they are mourning the loss of this that and the other railway line, at least re-instatement is possible.

I believe that there is something along these lines in Ireland - but only for 10 years................

There is an EU directive to that effect, but it's ignored by the UK gooberment. They only seem to enforce the stupid EU directives :( .

I think that you will have great difficulty locating very much on this line, I can't think of any photographs of Tollcross Station.

Sorry
