That time of year again.....

Postby Gazzathecoigne » Sat Jun 25, 2005 7:54 am

Yes. It's marching season, and the BIG walk has been brought forward this term. This is the last year it'll be going to the Green, and as of next year it'll be going to Kelvingrove again. That apart, what do you all do to avoid it? Or do you follow it? Even though my I'm a Rangers man, I am by no means an Orengeman, and won't be following it. So what'll you all be doing today folks, or indeed if you're out, post the photos.

Just a thought (I'm a bit pissed "hic")

:)

A whole pile of the inconsiderate twats wandered by my hoose at about 8 in the morning today. It's the only day of the week I have any chance of a lie in. And I've got a hangover, which made matters worse.

I don't care who they are.

I used to work in the centre of Glasgow, and could never understand how they were allowed to march up and down what should have been the busiest streets in the city and bring them all to crawl, supported by a police escort.

Try doing that as 'ordinary, unblessed' citizens and you'd soon be carted off, or have to be scraped up from beneath a bus.

They should all be carted off to the The Green and be thankful for it, along with folk that want to build over George Square and hold events in it.

Just a bloody annoyance, but if you let the hippies do it you have to let the orangemen, i guess.

I think there is an application process for this sorta thing. If you have a parade or protest or whatever, the police are there for people's safety to make sure nobody gets mowed down by the buses...

I guess it's true what you say about holding up the busy streets and stuff. Besides the music is pish and I'm really no aw that interested in parades unless they have turcks covered in tissue paper wae kids throwing sweets fae them.

im not into this or religion in anyway whatsoever...but i beleive that the protesting of the medeval ramblings of the catholic church way back in the days of yore have saved us all from living in a third world country....as for walking up and down the streets of Glasgow to rub in a victory so many centuries ago, when infact people have integrated well into this protestant country is just stirring up unnecesary trouble. especially nowadays as no real religion has much hold over people with a amind of their own....what nesxt no Dday celebrations..anyway blah blah blah.....

Before I say this I am not Catholic or Protestant so these orange marches mean nothing to me, neither does Catholic Republicanism.

have integrated well into this protestant country

We actually all started out catholic...even Scotland the Irish are in fact our closest relatives especially in the west of Scotland.

living in a third world country

I suppose France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Luxembourg, Ireland and many of the countries in Europe are third world. The catholic church has reformed (if not to a full degree) over the centuries.

Vlad.. we all started out catholics rubbish........ .as for the third world thing the countries you have mentioned are relatively new to wealth i could mention many more poorer countries....the point captain mentioned about getting your mind and wealth, leaves people poverty stricken of wealth and their own minds..

You lucky person Schiehallion :D

Funnily enough, I was just to post this link:

http://www.pbase.com/zak355/vday

and suggest this was probably more what the legistlators had in mind, rather than facilitating folk that want to push their partcular beliefs in other folk's faces.

My observation really just remains questioning if they really need to plough through the heart of the city centre, when there are plenty of safer and less disruptive routes they could choose and still be seen.

Not so, if I marched with a group and celebrated Hitlers murder of the Jews; How long before my beaten arse hit a cell floor do you think?

I'm still puzzled as to why the relevant EU (And British) laws about race and religious hatred are not applied to these drum battering, city clogging, hangover waking, marching people?
