What, no satellite view?

Don't they think we're part of America yet? :)

I find Google maps incredibly thick at the moment, entering a local address for the map on screen, it goes and finds streets in London. They need to move it on.

This runs Java, and needs a decent link as it provides data as you mouseover the map http://www.uk.map24.com/

Apollo, yeah I know what you mean. It still looks
very early beta. I wish developers would spend
a little more time, testing it before linking it up
to the web first. It will probably get there soon
enough, with enough user feedback :)

Ha... I know map makers put deliberate mistakes in maps, but the Glasgow Road in Kilmarnock has never been called Jackson Street West, and it doesn't have a Sugar House Lane near it either. :D

at the moment, until they get satellite images. It's still pretty useable.

It seems to think University Avenue is called "Chewton Way" and Gt Western Road is "Inverquhomery Road". Weird.

Many mistakes...

but

The maps LOOK good, very visually appealing, nice clear and simple, with nice use of icons. With only infrastructure indicated.

I like how they work. I like the click and drag to move around, which is a very intuitive way of moving around the map.

I like the way javascript is used to call the extra images when you move around the map, without refreshing the page.

There is much that is good here.

Its NOT an OS map... It doesnt have the detail of streetmap or multimap ...but it doesnt have the bloat and overwhelming advertising either... but these both look like shit. Oh, how I'd love to redesign their style...

The pervasiveness of Google could get to be a worry...as people get more and more dependent on what they offer. But so long as they keep doing it well...... ??

Sorry, but which map system are you talking about?

I know the the map24 offering comes up with the odd oddity, hence my comment aboove, but as this is the Google map thread, are you saying it is coming up with odd street names too?

Yes Sharon, Google = Tesco of the web ::):

Looks OK, however I've noticed two omissions in the Glasgow area:

1. The recently relaid Maryhill-Anniesland railway line, which is forgiveable.

2. The Forth & Clyde Canal, which is considerably less forgiveable. 8O
