Byres Road

Postby drcrippen » Wed Apr 13, 2005 8:14 pm

Anyone remember a few years ago when the water main at the top of byers road? My question is, what happened to the tunnel underneath hear?

I have read information of a tunnel expedition from 1998, where there was a big water leak at this point, but wondered what it is like now?

Anyone help?

You'll be glad to know that the Botanic Gardens Station and the tunnel didn't suffer any damage.

Interesting question; there's a mention on that Milk Crate Gang web archive about water leaks: http://web.archive.org/web/19981202201947/www.waverleyltd.co.uk/subway/bg-01.htm
"There was also a large and constant flow of water pouring from a small hole in the tunnel wall on the Byres Road side, suggesting problems to come. "
Could it have been that same leak that caused the problems in Byres Road?

Check out the Abbey National .......that's gone through a few changes since then and what about this dedicated follower (nay Leader!) of Fashion with the post-punk black leggings that also had extra safety feature that prevented him being sucked down a drain. 8O

Does the Abbey look any different these days? I walk/drive past it a few times a week and I’m sure it’s just the same. Maybe I’m just used to it looking the way it did in the above photos. It’s funny that I really can’t remember this flooding.

On today’s evidence, I must be going senile.

God, I remember that day... was high up in the Boyd Orr, minding my business looking out the window, when it happened. The water was going at some rate as I remember.

The Abbey has a pink sign that says Abbey, and a pink cash machine. Other than that, it's much the same. Although it appears that the company has changed its logo again, following the takeover by Santander.
