Someone informed me that while doing some work on that building they came across a mothballed 'sixties' bar/club on one of the upper floors. Anyone have any info on this?

Had a wee search Jim it wouldn’t be this

As soon as i heard on the radio travel report that roads were closed in the city centre due to a fire this morning, i could only wonder what listed building it would be this time. A purchase of the ET and a wander along at lunchtime proved me right.

I'm guessing it's going to come down fairly quickly, the Bay Horse was already shut due to flooding. Pessimistic quote from Scottish Natural heritage in the paper "unlikely to oppose any demolition order"

Some Pictures from lunchtime today

Thanks for posting the pics James. 8)

The building looks in not too bad a condition from the exterior considering.

Ok! the top floor and roof are fire damaged but is it really that badly damaged?

the one I was referring to wasn't at this location, but above the Pizza Hut on West Nile Street/Mandela Square. Althought that's not to say there wasnt one in the building above the Bay Horse.

Although interestingly...

The ground-floor Bay Horse pub – closed for months due to flooding – will be the only part of the building to survive.

is it only the listed buildings that burn down in Glasgow? Some kind of freak statistical correlation could probably be drawn up by someone with more brains/time than me, e.g. if listed A, 90% more likely to burn down than anywhere else, if listed B, 60% more likely to be burninated, etc.

I think you're all being a bit too cynical.

The building was only C(s) listed after all. If you want to knock one of them down all you have to do is ask - Historic Scotland don't give a f*** about C(s) listed buildings.
... they’re all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same.

I hope Flip isn't shut, or where am I going to buy my Bench t-shirts!?

This recent trend of fires is quite depressing. If it continues at this rate Glasgow will look like any other crappy city.

Aye, my arse it will. Not unless they'll remove all the rubble that has gone crashing through the ceiling and out the doors, and then replace every item of Pubbery to make it a pub again.

Ten pound says the whole thing comes down.

And what Dr Lightning was talking about, the whole building crashing down into the supposedly retained pub
