they thought terrorists might infiltrate the choir.... the idea still makes me smile..! The piece of music that was composed for the event was performed in the kelvin art galleries main hall instead (Tunnel Echoes -March 13 2009)

So,I haven't been in the tunnel for a couple of years and what a sad place to be then for a couple of minutes
Have they done anything to it since?
Why did they let it get so bad?
I was taken,by car,through it when it opened as a treat - and back again - twice
By the way, why can't they build a tunnel, structually, between N I and Scotland?

There's a huge deep trench halfway across that was used as a dumping ground for old munitions during the war. Can't remember what it's called, but I was on the boat laying a fibre-optic communications cable between NI and Scotland for Mercury Communications (remember them?), which came ashore at Ardrossan, and remember the technical manager saying how problematic the trench had been for them, as they had to be careful where they laid the cable across it.

Transported to the cutting, and bolted together end to end to form the large ring section,then side to side to form the tunnel.

Are you sure about that. When I was an apprentice in H&W Clyde Foundry i was working in the Pattern Shop. There they made the wooden patterns and these were cast in the Clyde Foundry.

My wee book above (page 26) suggests that both of you are correct - there were 5 companies involved in casting the tunnel segments.
