Correct!

Apocryphal story - when Giles Heron (aka The Black Flash) signed in the 50's he was one of the first black players in Scotland. His ethnicity caused a wee bit of consternation amongst certain Celtic fans. However, these doubts were dispelled when a voice in the terrace said :"It's all right, lads, he's one of those black Irishmen." There were no further doubts about his suitability for the job from then on in.

The other (less well known) connection was that Gil was busted with an industrial amount of cocaine in his luggage when came over to to play the Pavilion as part of Mayfest in the late 80s.

I would have given the award for either answer, but Fatcat wins a picture of the cover of Winter in America.

Latest news, according to my sources...

Yesterday a couple of skips were delivered to the car park of the old
Creme de la Creme/Kelvin Cinema and they've started to put the fence
up along with the "Keep Out" signs. Stripping out is beginning to
gain momentum.

Does anyone know the recently built tenement on Great Western Rd( a years now) ....it fits in with the surrounding tenements. Its next to Defunkt Records(above and to right slightly). I think this is a great idea, demolish a badly damp, falling apart tenement, replace it with one built on the previous structure/architecture.

C'mon the tenements :!:

With the removal of the canopy, it appears demolition of the Kelvin has begun. Thanks to Graham Kelly for the photo.

It's amazing how much of the original detailing is still there.

Shame it wouldn't be for much longer.
... they’re all made out of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same.

Yes, we were pleasantly surprised at how much was still there - we caught it at just the right time - the bulldozers had removed most of the later false walls and ceilings, revealing what was left of the original decor.

As of this weekend, most of the original ceiling and the balcony has now gone; just leaving bare girders and metal cladding...

I'm not at liberty to reveal my sources

I assume that means they expect to have the site entirely cleared by then? They're certainly making good progress last time I passed with most of the building reduced to an empty shell.

Yeah, was told by my gaffer August for sure, although I do hope it's sooner. I'm currently at a site up in Arden and it's an absolute nightmare. All the locals walking about with their buckie, and knives down their trousers, threatening to do me in for just being there.
