Scottish Telly Show of the Past!!!

Postby Bonz » Mon Nov 01, 2004 10:52 pm

Awright!!!

I thought it was time I upped my posts, and this ones been bugging me for ages. Does anybody remember a scottish television show from the late seventies/early eighties called "Maggie"???

It was set in Edinburgh (I think) and was based around the trials and tribulations of the teenage Maggie and her family (in an Edinburgh high rise - I think).

The theme tune went: "Maggie, so far so far so good"

Nobody I know remembers this, am I spouting a big pile a crap or did this show really exist???

Answers on a post card please!!!

I have a vague memory of it but it wasn't rotten as The_Clincher mentions, it was worse than that.

This did exist... your not going barmy. I think it was based on a series of children's books written by Joan Linguard. I am sure it was set in Glasgow, and have vague memories of watching an episode and thinking at the time, it was set in the tenements in Duke Street. (maybe she moved from Glasgow to Edinburgh!)

With regard to the theme tune, I would put money on it being written and sung by BA Robertson

"...She's inclined academically, but so far its so good..."

does that ring a bell?

You'll be talking about the series starring Kirsty Miller? Have met Kirsty a couple of times. Friend of a friend... Married to a writer called Jon Love. If in doubt, always have a look on IMDB.com.

Find out here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398510/

Who remembers "Stookie"? Aired sometime in the 80's.

The head girl of my school played his posh girlfriend and I think she sang the theme tune (she had long blonde straight hair).

He looked a bit like Tabby from XFactor?
Ehhh... cool. Whatever you say, I'm sorry. You're the man. The dude in the chair.

Och, I mentioned that a couple of posts back in this thread an no one made a peep!

Stookie was a big childhood favourite round here in Cambuslang, as I recall, cos a little bit of it was filmed down by the Clyde where Safeway is now. Parts were also shot by the Clyde in Dalmarnock.

Stookie aka David McKay has since popped up in Braveheart and Rab C, amongst other things, but shortly after Stookie aired, he came to our school as part of a play about (I think!) the Highland Clearances. He jumped on to the set in period costume and shouted hello everybody, and got a rabble of "Hello Stookie" in return! Fickle thing, fame, especially Scottish fame!

I can vaguely remember the theme tune:

"Stookie! Always ready to...." Er, actually, that's all I remember!

I'll get me coat.

Not directly related to this but it's too trivial to start a new thread. I heard something on the wireless today and this line popped into my head:

"There's somebody at the door! There's somebody at the door!"

What's that from :?:
