New Transport Museum at Riverside

I can't see what technological knowledge or lack thereof has to do with the fact that Cars, Bikes and Motorbikes are perched anywhere between 6 and 16 feet up a wall, hanging from the roof or up a ramp, where no one can see them at all, and to have the smallest car (the BMW Isetta) on the top shelf is just ludicrous. The whole thing is a total shambles which appears to have been designed by a 5 year old. The on redeeming factor is the outside of the building its self (but not the couple of square metres they are calling a car park)which is not bad at all.

At the end of the day I think what pisses me off most is £74,000,000 plus has been spent (most of it flowing down river and out of the city) and they didn't even come close to getting it right!

I wonder how much it would have cost to build a simple rectangular shed with twice the floor space this building has? I'll bet it wouldn't have been close to £74,000,000.

You don't hire Zahid to design a functional building. Any competent architect can do that for a fraction of the price. You hire her to make A Statement, and put your city on the map.

The transport museum used to occupy the interior is neither here nor there.

The only grievance I could possibly have will come when the Weegies complain of Edinburgh bias when the rest of Scotland refuses to pay in entirety for Glasgow's face-saving distractions from the fact that they will insist on demolishing their genuinely distinguishing architecture for marquee-name, could-be-anywhere-frankly baubles.

Does anyone know if a delegation of Councillors went on a jolly to any of Zaha Hahid's other buildings elsewhere before awarding this contract?

I have, by sheer coincidence, seen most of Zahid's buildings. I like all of them. But that's beside the point.

Innsbruck is possibly the closest comparison. Funicular railway line. Beautiful exteriors, starkly functional interior.
