Glasgow poorhouses any remains visible 2018?

Postby Steve123 » Wed Aug 08, 2018 10:45 pm

Hi - I realise there have been various discussions on poorhouses in the city over past years and this is my first posting on the site but does anyone know if you can still see any visible remains of a poorhouse in Glasgow today? I realise from older articles some were visible in recent years but unclear if these have all now gone with recent rebuilding of hospital (Govan) etc. Really looking for something you can see today as I need it for a book (possibly Govan or near Duke Street)? cheers

Hi,
some of the Govan buildings are still standing on the Queen Elizabeth site, including the clock tower. http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Govan/
The perimeter wall of the new Barnhill poorhouse is still there, near Red Road

I wish that they will preserve the Govan Building and the clock tower because it was of the historic sites in Scotland.

The only reason its still there is because it's listed, so it is preserved
