BHS Building - Sauchiehall / Renfield Street

Postby sluddy » Tue Sep 02, 2014 2:44 pm

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (I've tried in vain to use the search with no luck),

I saw this awesome picture on Lost Glasgow: Image

The thing that struck me the most was the building with the ornate spires, around 3 buildings down from the Pavilion. I believe it's now this fetching BHS store

Image

Anybody have more info on what stood there before?

Thanks,

S

Nearly certain it was a church, but can't remember the name - sure someone else will know.

eta - it was the Renfield St church

r.e, the BHS store on Bath st, that site as I believe was previosly a block of similar to what is still there in Bath st, offices ,with some flats above. My grandda was a caretaker in that building ,and lived with his family there long before BHS were there ,talking about ,1930s,hope this helps?

Octavia, if you follow the link to Canmore, you'll see that Renfield Street church was demolished in 1965. So I think the location of the building your grandfather worked in may be elsewhere.
