I hate to rain on your parade but the cocencus of opinion on these big events Olympics, commonwealth and Fifa isthe host country, city, state etc at the end when everyone buggers off home is left with enormous debt and nearly useless infrastructure.

City centre was murder yesterday at the annual rats piss up, got a taxi in town and the only road open to the east end was through Stockwell, through to Bridgeton (which was empty 8O ). I dread to think what will happen at games time. Taxi driver had never seen road restrictions so bad. Police must've been having a practice with road closures.

However, the council are clearing away the weeds. Oh, the legacy :D

I took a wee midnight tour of the city, the south side and east in particular. I know Glasgow like the back of my hand and could do it all with my eyes closed - but I struggled. There are so many changes to the city over in the east and with the M74 extension that it is confusing. It's not too difficult to work out where roads go but on my tour of the city....the Clyde Arc (Squinty Bridge) layout has been changed - one section is closed and the other carriageway is two way traffic on the single deck.

The south side Aitkenhead Road will be closed, there are a lot of 'new' and supposedly 'temporary no left turns or no right turns' and a Games Lane - apparently these lanes will be monitored and if you stray into them - prepared to be fined.

Also Kelvin Way is currently closed and there are a whole host of other roads around the city, from Castlemilk and the Braes to Sauchiehall Street - even the trains are affected by 'one way travel.'

For some, the city will be at a standstill and tonight, I was talking to one of the guys who was painting a road sign on the south side - he told me that he is to repaint it as 'they've changed their mind' so Cummock Road is going to be chaos too.

I wonder what this will end up costing us....

Have you guys seen the "uniforms" the poor buggers in Team Scotland have been inflicted with for the opening and closing ceremonies?

Jesus wept... I thought the outfits for the Clydesider support staff were bad.

I think this thread should be renamed....

Sadly, it seems that each day more and more stories are emerging of people having difficulties in getting around and gaining access.

A family member working for Land Services has recounted a story of how 'no bags were to be used in his depot as everything is going over to the East and Central Depots. He has received a hospital appointment too and was 'politely asked' to reschedule or cancel it....

And these are the games of the people?

The athletes should point blank refuse to wear that ridiculous "parade uniform" on the grounds that it makes them look like a bunch of diddies.

You mean these?

Image

I`ve saw better rags up the Parkhead charity shops. And this "conceived" and "crafted" by PhD fashion grads! Wow! Too bad they didn`t take a PhD in Fashion Taste. What is it with the middle-class mob all falling all over each other to hire one another? Whatever happened to merit? Recall Stella McCartney, daughter of you-know-who, knocking up the Olympic rags last time round. They`d been amputated down to about £5 a throw in Tesco. Before the Olympics. And still weren`t selling. Talk about cutting your losses...
