'The Secret History of Our Streets' in Scotland

Postby The Egg Man » Fri Jan 17, 2014 5:26 pm

The Secret History of Our Streets' in Scotland - a BBC2 researcher seeks stories about Moray Feu in Lost Edinburgh To follow up its multi award-winning series, 'The Secret History of Our Streets', BBC2 is producing three social history films about Scottish streets, including the Moray Feu in Edinburgh's New Town. Built between 1822 and 1829, the Moray Feu is perhaps the grandest and most beautiful of the New Town developments.

To help with the research, the programme's researcher is keen to chat with former and current residents, domestic staff and their descendants about their time on Moray Place, Ainslie Place, Randolph Crescent or any of the other streets on the Feu. Please contact the programme researcher, Jane MacSorley, on [email protected] or call 01233 895 128

Thanks to Lost Edinburgh for pointing this out.

It prompts me to ask what street/ enclave HG'ers would suggest as suitable for the Secret History treatment.

I think I'd vote for Royal Crescent or Queen's Crescent.

You?

Butterbiggins Road for me.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

Moray Place is weird. Interesting choice for a programme. (The gardens behind it to the north are one of my favourite bits of the planet, incidentally.)
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

If it's to be anything like the London version where they take a clearly defined area or street which has undergone considerable change/s since it was built, the Moray Feus area is probably a good place to choose.

Yeah it was excellent. It was all news to me about the Reidvale residents and how they fought to save their tenements; quite inspiring really.

There was also a good piece on the Bluevale/Whitevale high flats have posted in the "Tower Block Demolition" thread in the Developments section - more about it there.

loved all three for their own unique stories and places in history but the old guy in edinburgh who pointed his stick like a gun in the closing credits really made me smile. ::):

I've only watched the Edinburgh one so far, it struck me as very, very, sad. Money really does not bring you happiness & old age can be a sea of loneliness for some.

I believe one of our mods is personally acquainted with some in the folk in that edition. They sound quite fun to me.
