Hey guys,

what Glasgow libraries USED to exist but are now used as something else, gone completely or justa vague memory in the history of Glasgow?

Yes Mori, The Anderston Library was demolished , Gorbals is now Deaf connections and the Stirling Libabry was in Miller Street before returning to its new/old home in the basement of GOMA.

Temple library - closed & relocated to Anniesland.

Short lived Yoker Youth library

And I can remember going with my grandfather to Springboig library which was literally a couple of portacabins at the bottom of Hermiston Road

Where it is now a creche-cum-coffee shop, with a few books.

Mosspark used to have a (small) public library, in Arran Drive. It is now a private house.

Not quite. Cardonald had a small library of its own which opened in the 1940's and lasted until 1971, when it was replaced by the current Cardonald Library which was actually built next door, at the corner of Paisley Road West and Mosspark Drive. The building which formerly housed the library is still there and is now used a private nursery.

After Mosspark Library was closed a mobile library came to the scheme for a while, but this was discontinued a number of years ago and Mosspark now falls within the catchment area of Cardonald Library.

A number of elderly and housebound Mosspark & Cardonald residents use the Home Library Service which is operated by a contingent of volunteers, among whom I am pleased to number myself. Theoretically this service is available at every public library within the Glasgow City Council area. Whether it actually is available will be dependent on whether there are people requesting the service and, if so, whether there are enough volunteers to meet the demand.

I have actually found a picture of the old Cardonald Library on the VirtualMitchell website. Link is:
