Castlemilk Woodlands Sign...we hardly knew ye!

Postby Gary Brown » Tue Aug 28, 2012 4:33 pm

On Thursday last week I noticed that Glasgow City Council had erected a new green GCC Park Sign on Fernhill road on the GCC side (not the SLC side) at the hole in the wall. It proudly read "Castlemilk Woodlands" (A 'Castlemilk Park' one has appeared near the map on Croftfoot Road at the park entrance too).

I told my mates and family that it would be gone by the weekend. I was wrong. On Monday (yesterday) morning when my 21 bus passed it I saw it. However on the journey home it was gone.

I think both the Toryglen Park signs; Bridgeton Park, Cowlairs Park, Budhill Park and Barrachnie Park signs are all gone now too.

Potentially being stolen for scrap value (of which they have none).

Interestingly, the rest of the signs (actually in Castlemilk) are fine:

I can't believe that people have to ruin it for others...just to get a couple of quid (probably not even that :? )

In fairness, do we really need a sign saying it was a woodland. I don't think it would be mistaken for a number 5 bus. :)

Is this the same park I played in in the forties and fifties ? Then known to us as Kings Park with Aitkenhead House and the Burrel Collection seen through dirty windows. Three entrances we used were one at the Kings Park railway station one at Croftfoot Rd. and one on I think Curmunock Rd. Many happy and simple days there, and another ten minutes took us to the Bluebell Woods which to us was way out in the country.

Craford - no King's Park is very much further away in Kings Park area. This is in Castlemilk.
