Hey folks,

Currently shooting a short film, was round at Tontine Lane on Wednesday night and saw that the Empire + Bar signs weren't illuminated. We're shooting a scene there in the coming weeks when it gets dark.

Was curious if anyone knows if they still light up and if so, when?

Cheers guys!

I would take a walk to Glasgow Heritage Trust ( http://www.glasgowheritage.org.uk/ ) 54 Bell Street . Their offices have a door can be opened to Tontine Lane, and ask.
They would probably know the owner .
Last week there was a lot of work going on in that Lane and that may be the reason.

Just a guess, but it may be hooked up to streetlighting and go on and off with that.

Went round to the lane on Saturday night around 11pm. There was no lights on down that lane at all, including the Empire sign.

Any idea why, guys?

If it's gone quiet for a longish while, it'll only be a matter of time before it lights up. Look for signs of planning weed.

No it's been off for ages. I take it in on some of the Student Tours Scotland walks.

That and Bough 2 (which has vanished).

On a side note - seen the OTHER sign thats appeared in the High Street entrance to Tontine Lane?

It looks like access to the Empire sign and the MItre Bar sign is now restricted.

I found this application for the gates ; https://publicaccess.glasgow.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=M3POGTEXW4000

and these are what has resulted;

And Bridget no longer requires that parking space as her office is now at 220 High Street. No need for the gates after all.

Whilst accepting that I'm more guilty of flippant comments than most, the issue is the closing off of access to a work by a world-class artist.
