A malfunctioning projector in the basement apparently.

Let's hope it can be rebuilt yes it may be a replica but better than nothing.
Main thing though is no one was killed or injured.

A little bird tells me that some had a lucky escape. Thank goodness everybody was ok.

What an absolute tragedy though. Of all the buildings you'd want to never go on fire, that'd probably be at the top of the list. This is awful, just awful.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

Insider knowledge:

The building had close to no insurance. The rates were prohibitive, apparently.

Jeezo .. here's hoping there's a few ex-students with deep pockets that can help with any possible rebuild.

"With the incident under control indications are the firefighters' efforts have ensured more than 90% of the structure is viable and protected up to 70% of the contents - including many students' work."

Reliably informed that on entering the main doors, the entire building on the right hand side of the main staircase is completely gutted, whilst the left suffered little damage other than smoke contamination. The library is completely gone, the roof collapsing in and taking the floor under with it.

With all the money spent on the new building across the street, questions will be asked as to why a few pennies extra couldn't be spent on a ( functioning ) sprinkler system for the old building.

Really depressing to see the pictures on telly last night.

Slightly better than my sources info of completely gutted, but still the library going is a dire shame.

My source is back on site tomorrow .. I'll relay what they have to say as soon as I hear.
