My ongoing research into the story of my uncle who died in WW1 leads me to ask, yet again, for help.
I'm trying to date and locate the attached photo of said uncle (on left) and just wondered if anybody had ever seen or knew anything about the backdrop or studio that might give me some clues. The date would be around 1915 or not much before as he left for Gallipoli in May 15, aged 18. He lived in Anderston so that might narrow it down a bit.

Corking photo. Is their a photographer's stamp on the back? Name of a studio?

It may just be coincidence but Texas Jack, the proprietor of the saloon, was a pal of Will Bill Hickok. There's stuff about the Will Bill 'visit' to Glasgow elsewhere in HG.

Duck do you reckon the picture was definately taken in Glasgow?
Any old family pics I have of that era were taken at Jerome's in Argyle St. None of them had a fancy backdrop like that but maybe that was an added extra. Great photo!!

Long shot as well but sometimes they pay off - I would enquire at the Glasgow Museums not sure exactly where but they have that display as well at The Riverside;

You are correct, it is Hickok.

My first post was regarding your reference to "Will Bill" rather than Wild Bill.

You're right. Even after you pointed it out I didn't notice. Specsavers for me.

Afraid not, Dexter. It's a strange photograph- almost as if taken by a "family" camera - no special mounting, card etc.
certainly no markings on it.

Here perhaps ? The showgrounds at Vinegarhill, dates could be right and definitely a wild west theme.
