Pub on Sauchiehall St circa 1980

Postby Rodders » Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:27 pm

Trying to remember a pub I would frequent circa 1980 sauchiehall st. I am sure it was not too far from centre court. when you walked in there was a narrow bar running up to the right and then it opened out to a larger bar. The sofas were green I think.

The Dome.

I liked it in that incarnation.

Perhaps, but nonetheless the bar you are describing fits The Dome.

Bridie : Not sure exactly, but it was just up the block from Nicos. There's doubtless a thread on here tells you exactly where. It was tennis-themed, and deeply silly.

There is indeed a post on Centre Court which says along the lines that it was difficult to get into unless you were a poser and the barmaids wore very short white skirts. From a guys point of view it was very pleasing to the eye but full of wankers. Was only in it once. The pub I am speaking about was just before it coming from charing cross.

Possibly turned into one but not when I frequented it. It was a typical city centre pub for 20 to 30 yr old and I spent my misspent youth in it with my wife to be. Now 30 yrs married this new year

Possibly now O'Neills.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Been year's since I was in O'Neill's, but they used to have a "music room" club bit next door which, if my memory serves, was essentially a long corridor that opened out into a room at the back, so that would seem to tie-in.

Correct, but the bar has since been remodelled and the long corridor removed with the bar moved to the back with the kitchen expanded into what was the music room
