Is Reverb (what's left of Sound Control) still on Jamaica Street? - I still remember Sound Control's original shop on Saltmarket back in the late 80s - think it was 1988 when they moved to Jamaica Street, then they took over the furniture shop next door a couple of years later selling pianos and organs.

There was a short lived piano shop on Candleriggs once, relatively recently in fact, just opposite Goldbergs.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions."

Dex in music terms it would be E before C#m, there is no I ::):

A very unique family business as they had their own credit facilities, so self-employed guys could buy their equipment on the never-never, no credit history required or anything, all you needed was a good relationship with the shop - nearly every musician in Glasgow probably had a "slate" in Macs.....

Sadly no more, another victim of online shopping. As was Sound Control, although in their case it was a combination of the internet, and over expansion that did for their business (taking over the basement of the ex-Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street in London is what broke them apparently).

Biggars on Sauchiehall Street also had a brush with the administrators a few years back. I think CC Music on Otago Street is the only historic music shop in the city that's managed to soldier on.

A name from the past, and a very well known one too. I remember as a teenager playing drums in the Boys Brigade band but I wanted a full drum kit and it was bought from McCormacks. Quality Premier drum kit then tuition from Lester Penman in the
old Gorbals where he taught from a large flat. Great times when I now look back

The name "Dunn" got me thinking - what happened to Dunn & Co - the tailors; think they were on Buchanan Street or down that way near Fraser's. When did they close down?

That was the one at the corner of Argyle Street and Queen Street.

Other corner sites were at Sauchiehall Street/Hope Street, and Renfield Street/Drury Street.
