I think Tandy was the "Shop Front" name of Radio Shack in the UK. I think a lot of the products were labelled Radio Shack, but I don't recall the shops being called Radio Shack. Mind you, I'm going back about 30 years, and I was only small then! :D

I'm sure ive seen the radio shack sign somwhere before Tandy at Regent house, id say about the late 80s/ early 90s maybe i'm mistaken. When id went to the US in the 80s id noticed a lot of radio shack shops and bought a few things from there and when i seen the radio shack sign realized it was an american chain @ Regent house.

Tandy also had a store on Argyle Street in one of the retail units facing into what is now the Radison Hotel

How about Dodge City in Darnley, which eventually became B&Q, anyone else remember that one?

I remember it, I was only a wee boy at the time. My dad always said it was full of cowboys. Now I get it

W. Crum & Sons on the corner of High Street and George Street bit the dust a year or so ago. Was that ever a chain, or was it always just one store that held out for a long time?

tobester wrote:Erskine (Bargarran, altho i think that was later as i think that may have been a Presto)

The Erskine one was indeed a Presto, though it was at the Bridgewater shops - the shop at Bargarran has always been a Spar as far as I can remember.

I think you're right Vinny - I'm sure I remember the Tandy store on the Isle of Man in the early 90's changing to Radio Shack for a few months, before they eventually gave up and went home!

Had to get a bit for my tumble dryer off what used to be Crum's spares a week or so ago. Still good service, but the opening hours on their website doesn't correlate to their actual opening hours on a Saturday, so I went into town thinking it'd be open, and the buggers were shut. Having no website is better than having a website with incorrect information. :(
