Bloody hell, how much did it cost to buy one in 1982?

A free blank tape - that would really seal the deal ::):

My dad had a Sony SL-C6 (Betamax, of course) VCR in 1982 - cost him £700 (that's over 2 grand in todays money!), and I think the tapes were a fiver a pop.

Probably the name survives but has been sold on.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Between 1979 and 1984 I worked as the Scottish Sales Rep for JVC and the first VHS l remember being sold went to John Coghlan of Status Quo and it cost him over £800. It was sold to him by a guy called Alister Lynn, a photographer/audio/video dealership in Annan, Dumfriesshire.

Dixons and Currys had several non out of town branches around Glasgow by the early nineties

Parkhead,Trongate,Argyle St,Sauchiehall St,where Pret a Manger is now,Union Street,Shawlands,Victoria Road and further afield in Clydebank,Hamilton,Motherwell and Paisley. At one time, around 1994, the Argyle St branch had the highest turnover of any store in the UK.

All thats left now is a Currys in Jamaica St.

It used to be a PC World, however it was changed into a 2-in-1 Currys / PC World superstore a few years ago.

Dixons have changed a number of their former Currys and PC World sites into joint stores.

The name on the front door is Currys/PC World. The receipt and URL say Currys. The Registered office is DSG Retail, i.e. Dixons.

Gave me a bit of a turn one day recently when I dashed into 'PC World' and encountered - - washing machines.
