You can get a Glasgow one if you can prove your place of work is within Glasgow. There may be other qualifying factors but this is the one that stuck in my mind. I asked the staff at the Mitchell and they were very helpful.

I don't see anything about a residential qualification. I believe the temporary membership is for those who cannot provide full ID - like folks staying at the hostels around the corner.

Hmmm they weren't very happy with my south Lanarkshire address. That was a couple of years ago though.

Without wishing to resurrect an old debate I believe it's another example of Glasgow council tax payers subsidising those from outwith the city who use Glasgow facilities.

Passengers on Scotland’s busiest rail line between Glasgow and Edinburgh should soon be able to access free wi-fi.

Ministers are expected to approve a roll-out of the service after First ScotRail said a wireless network covering services between Scotland’s largest cities, used by nearly seven million travellers a year, could operate using existing mobile phone masts.

Now officials at Transport Scotland are studying the details of the train operator’s report to see whether the plan, which would also boost mobile phone signals, is affordable and represents value for money.

The Atrium, off Byres Rd., in Cresswell St., free long time usage available. Friendly, clean and good value. I think their system is "Clouds" or a name like that, I think it means you have to log on with your own ID., but it is free.

Have to disagree with comment that 85% of WiFi is unlocked. In my experience most domestic Internet connections are protected with WPA but many businesses lag behind with very vulnerable WEP encryption - ideal for the city centre

A copy of Backtrack on CD or DVD, along with a wireless card card capable of a little jiggery-pokery plus a little know how should solve the problem.
