Who can forget Peat Road Motors? At one time there seemed to be branches everywhere.

Sorry if its been covered:

Mosspark Boulevard at Dumbreck Road.

Above the motorway.

That was the place that I first thought of buying a car.

Peat Road Motors had a showroom in Giffnock - where Kwik Fit now stands. It also had a petrol station on the forecourt out the front.

There was a showrrom on Glasgow Road, Paisley which had Philp, Linn, Abercromby, Murray and finally Taggarts Volvo, before it closed. It was still there, boarded up last time I passed. Also - there was a Nissan showroom on Barrhead Road, near Crookston Road but it's long gone.

Lastly - going way back - there was a showroom at the corner of Benview Road & Old Mearns Road in Clarkston - where Spar/Scotmid is now. The current car park used to be the showroom forecourt.

One of the owners of Peat Road Motors now owns a pub, the Roxy, in Girvan. A prize cunt. this is not the view of Hidden Glasgow, I found out for myself.

The proprietor of Discount Motoring at the corner of Barrack St. and Gallowgate, is a former director. He isn't a cunt. He is an awkward wee bassa.

Unless I've missed it, nobody has mentioned Peter Cannon ("the big noise in Ford's" as the TV Ad said).

Showroom is still there in in Glasgow Road, Rutherglen.

After PC's it became Trust Motors, People's, and now Arnold has it

You probably saved yourself a lot of trouble. I remember back then that the second hand market was awash with cut'n'shut examples or were merely stolen. Then there were those that were dressed up. Buying a genuine one-owner properly serviced machine was a nightmare. Then you had to hang on to it. Couldn't leave them parked anywhere.

So did the Hilman Imp I got after that. You had to remove the engine to change the fan belt.

You had to remove the engine for most things on them!! Still, it only took about 10 minutes to completely remove the engine from an Imp, so it wasn't much of a hardship. I'd rather have done that than change the 'belt on a Chevette - now they were a total nightmare to work on IIRC!!

Robert - some of those later examples of advertising I remember very well, especially the Mercedes ones for some reason. (Mercedes remain out of my reach even now - probably a good thing!)

I was driving down Commerce street the other day and remembered there used to be a Belmont autos on the corner of Kingston st. Pretty sure one of my uncles bought a Mk2 Cavalier SRi there and wrote it off within the year.
