QE2 Launch

Postby shuttle536 » Wed May 18, 2011 8:37 pm

I've probably put these in the wrong place so if someone knows where they should be please move them :D
I was just visiting my parents and spotted that my mum had this lying out, so a quick scan before I leave, and this is the result.

I realise that the launch of the QE2 was a big event and all but...

... does it really warrant your mum wearing a tie?

I'm not sure who is in the second one. I think they were just trying for a wider shot.
I hadn't noticed the tie but it also looks as though there is a pocket watch in there too :)

I found some cracking photos of my family the other day. My auntie having her Photo taken, down on the farm, with her mum on her wedding day, in her dress with a basket of potatoes that has managed to sneak into the shot is a stand out piece.

You just don't get guy's like that anymore, whose whole life was in heavy engineering.
Glasgow has lost it's legacy somewhere.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

I recall that there was a lot of publicity around the new cunarder and excitement during the build up to the launch. I was in primary school and can remember a competition to guess the name of the new ship.
I didn't have much imagination at the time and thought "Queen Elizabeth the Second" would do for my entry, much to the amusement of my class mates who came up with much more imaginative suggestions.
And yes I did gloat!

I was at the launch of the QE2. My dad was a fitter in the yards at the time and we were all invited. For a young lad who stayed with 5 other family members in a room and kitchen this was luxury. I can still remember my draw dropping wne I saw the swimming pools. My dad died a year back and I was clearing out the house and came across a QE2 cufflink that he bought, unfortunately there was only one. I also came across a newspaper clipping of the workers arriving in Southampton after the sea trials and he is in the picture.
