Question about a sundial

Postby Robbo » Tue Mar 29, 2011 6:29 pm

Hi guys,

I've not been on the forum for a while due to ill health but recovering now and was wondering if anyone can help me with my query?

Can anyone tell me anything about the sundial on the side of the house at the corner of Royston Road and Royston Square?

Thanks
Robbo

I didn't even really have an idea of where Royston is let alone the sundial until that map, to be honest.

East, West, South I'm fine with, but North Glasgow is just Here be Dragons to me.

Had a wander round the area a few years ago, the spire is well worth seeing up close.

Don't have anything of usefulness about the sundial I'm afraid, I'd just like to say I hope you get to full health soon Robbo.
I like him ... He says "Okie Dokie!"

Apparently, this was a war memorial. From Royston News at http://www.roystonlho.co.uk/pdfs/Roysto ... Aug_10.pdf

'the plaque was originally erected in 1919 as Glasgow City Council's (sic) tribute to servicemen returning from the First World War. During the Second World war, of the four houses in Mrs Waugh's block, three lost a member of their family.'

Thanks, G.

I have a vague memory of us trying to find it in the dark on an HG walk, still dazzled by the discovery of the single remaining inter-war Glasgow tenement.
