The finest coffee in Glasgow....

Postby Late to the Party » Tue Mar 15, 2011 2:38 pm

Perhaps not the most highbrow of subjects, but we're not always that highbrow as a group so what the heck. Well, with the exception of Doorstop anyway....

I'm on a mission to find the finest coffee house in Glasgow. Good surroundings a bonus but it's got to be all about the coffee. Any suggestions? Too many wonderful locations selling coffee so pathetic that it couldn't defend itself against your average chugger.

A subject close to my heart, particularly mid-afternoon on a cold snowy day.

Tapa - Pollokshaws Rd & Duke street is excellent http://www.tapabakehouse.com/
Trans Europe Cafe - Parnie Street for a super strength brew http://www.transeuropecafe.co.uk/
The Rio Cafe - Hyndland Street http://www.myspace.com/theriocafe

Good coffee means I keep going back to these 3 places, but I'm always on the lookout for a good recommendation, ideally with WiFi.

Alternatively for a home brew, I totally recommend Nespresso and HasBean. Time to fire up the old Nespresso!

A cafe here used an Italian coffee called Tico - the best I've ever tasted unfortunately the cafe closed (nothing to do with the coffee) and I can't find Tico coffee anywhere for love or money.
Yes HH,I know

Up until a few days ago I'd have said Morton's on Byres Rd but I notice it's shut :(

Sorry - wee bit off topic

Now why would you go there when an extra 50 yards will get you to here:

They roast it in front of you in an antique roaster. Can't get fresher than that...

Tinderbox is still surprisingly good, Offshore on Gibson Street, great, but this place makes the best coffee I have ever tasted in Glasgow.
You're welcome.

Almost every time you pass Finnieston there's another coffee shop opened up.

The latest, I think, is on Berkeley St just off Argyle Street.

I'm with Sharon - those are my top three coffee places too, and in the same order! For home brew I've long been a fan of Lavazza.

The finest expresso i have tasted anywhere is the wee Italian Cafe in Central Station up by Platform 9 and 10,its name escapes me at the moment, not bitter just the right amount of crema and full of flavour.
Try it.

I know the one you mean and strangely enough for an Italian cafe it's called Franco's !

I think the same people run the cafe at the corner of Argyle St & Hope Street at the Low Level ticket office

What Sharon said. Tapa is consistently 1st class.

where are all the indy cafe owners staking a claim to the throne. You suggest it and we'll give it a try.
Eighty percent of success is showing up.

I went to transeurope coffee shop and got half a cup of cappucino filled to the top with foam. When I asked if more coffee could be added to it the owner of the shop was really nasty and it was clear didn't want me in his shop any longer. He was extremely cheeky to my friend and I and we've never returned.

Way out west..... sorry - you probably know it's good

Bella Fersca - opposite Aldi in Cardonald - now that does a mean esspresso.

Stupidly, I pulled into the metreed bays outside and got a £30 ticket,
instead I should've bought a 30p chewing gum, to park without question
at Albrecht Discounts Rooftop Free Multi-Story Parking opposite.

Clearly I'm just a country fool, but that coffee was well worth it.
So obviously, the city will pay over the coming years.

Tried the Artisan Roast on Gibson Street this afternoon.... Now that was a good coffee.

Think I'm going to have to start a list of places to go now. Cheers folks!
