They would have got away with it, if it hadn't been for the "brave, heroic" bit.

If he'd been that brave he'd have shot Hitler in the head.

Added to which it appears just to have been a gravestone someone has come across and chiselled a few words onto - perhaps the local stonemason was having a bin-end sale, or had a last minute cancellation!

The location is apparently Floor's Farm, but I'm buggered if I can find it on any online maps.

"Brave and heroic" is a tad extreme.

It's a gravestone, but I don't think that's been chiselled.

Ask Ronnie, he'll tell you about modern gravestones.

When I die it will be in my will that my gravestone is inscribed by a human, and not some automated process.

You know, that's something I agree with. Remember the difference in the stones when we were walking around Bent Cemetery? From the grand old carved stones to the shitey machine-inscribed charmless black marble ones.

I know which I would prefer.

Just a tad? More like totally fvcking exaggerated.

Heroic my @rse. If he was heroic he would have done everything in his power to stop Hitler, instead of running away.

Even a well-made wooden marker with a small brass plaque would be better than the modern marble shite.

I think I'll have it in my will that I either have a small marker with a wee plaque, or nothing at all, just to piss off future genealogists...

That is, assuming I'm not famous enough for the ten-foot statue of me, pointing victoriously into the distance, made of marble...

I know, but what he did wasn't without enormous personal risk. He knew he could never return to Germany, that his wife and kids would probably end up in a camp, and that he would too if ever he were captured. That is a lot to consider, even though you're trying to save Europe.

I want to have one of those anyway, regardless of whether I'm famous or not ;>

I guess so.

It's not something I know a great deal about, so I probably shouldn't comment.

Was always disappointed that Spike Milligan didn't go through with his plan to be buried in a washing machine to confuse future archaeologists...

But his family did manage, after much squabbling, to put "I told you I was ill" on his gravestone, albeit in gaelic.

You know what I love about these forums?

The fact that we've gone totally off topic, and no-one has locked the thread or given us a warning.

A victory for common sense there....hurrah!

Map of Floors Farm...

In the centre of the map.

*Edit*.... gah .... they must clear their temporary maps on the server.

Just go to http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/

and enter NS558541 in the search box.
