Can you update us on that list, Robert? You mentioned 1857 above, but you don't have it listed on that earlier thread.

Thought I would put this on here since Robert is someone who may know the answer.

My Dad told me recently that he did ice skating in Glasgow in the 1930's.
I think he said it was where the old transport museum in Glasgow was before it moved to it's present location.
He said that the rink closed when war broke out and that it was planned that it would be used as a mortuary if
Glasgow was bombed. Don't think it was ever actually used for this purpose though.

He also told me that one of my Aunt's who now lives in Argyll went curling somewhere in Pollokshields or the
surrounding area. He doesn't know what became of the curling place and was curious if it is still on the site
or if it was knocked down.

Do you have any information on either of these things?

The Pollokshields or nearby site sounds like it might have been Crossmyloof.
I hear the people sing.

.

My Dad's 1600E got stolen whilst he was curling at a charity do
at Crossmyloof.
Taxi home (including the boundary charge) did not go down well.

Gold & black it was.

Morrison's CCTV would snare any would be car stealers nowadays.

It must be Crossmyloof as after a quick look on Google I discovered that this was the first indoor ice rink
in Scotland and it opened on 1st October 1907.

Thanks to all for the replies.

Robert,
Great to see a photo. Must ask my aunt next time I see her if she has any pictures or curling mementos.

I found a curling site which mentioned the rink at Kelvin Hall in the 1930s.

Aye Bob, Your collections are priceless and very interesting. I liked you collection of Bowling Club badges. Do you have any collection of amateur football medals or school badges? I still have my prefects badge from Bellahouston from 1975.
Keep up the good work!

there is a nice collection of photos of all the Glasgow Schools Football Association shields and cups, including one that had been lost for years and was only found last year.
