Robert Pool's Glasgow

Postby Sharon » Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:46 pm

Sorry for giving you an unasked for thread of your own, but I did enjoy the BBC article about you!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/glasgowandw ... 117861.stm
Robert Pool has built a collection of memorabilia related to Glasgow over the years.
Part of it has been added to the digital collection of A History of the World, the partnership between the BBC, British Museum and museums around the country.
The website hosts objects from museums and the public which help tell the story of the history of mankind.
Robert's items give a glimpse into the history of the city of Glasgow.

Many of the objects can be seen here http://www.bbc.co.uk/ahistoryoftheworld ... #topofpage

Fascinating stuff, thank you Robert!

Thank you, l saw it for the first time on Tuesday when l went to the BBC to do 2 interviews. My daughter and 2 grandchildren were quite amused by it all; seeing their dad/grandad's name in the display case.

I have just went and read the article. Rob, Craig and Carol really made me sound as if l knew what i was talking about ::): It was fun being involved with it and many thanks to the crew behind it all.

The BBC at Pacific Quay is open to anyone, well at least the reception area next to the cafe is, so pop along and let me know what you think :?:

ps whats on display is only a small fraction of my collection 8O

I heard you on Feedback today. You sound far too young to have grand children.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Ach, I was at the BBC on Wednesday; I would have had a look had I realised it was there.

I can't find the post where you listed the years you had missing, Robert.

I've got an 1855, 1858 and 1865 if you need them.

thank you to everyone.

Josef, the year that is missing is 1857 then it jumps to the 1950's, but you know l would be happy with anything to add to the collection.

I have just supplied The Motherwell Heritage Centre with 30+ items for their 'Hitting The Bottle Exhibition'. An exhibition about Lanarkshires love, hate relationship with alcohol which will run until the end of February.

You should think about lottery funding for an exhibition place to display all your gatherings. :D

Would be a great place for a tourist atraction.

Can you update us on that list, Robert? You mentioned 1857 above, but you don't have it listed on that earlier thread. I'll have a rummage through my hospital collection.
