42 Virginia Street

Postby zeno » Thu Oct 21, 2010 5:54 pm

Hi all,

Sorry in advance if this building has been spoke about or if this thread is in the wrong section...

I have often wondered what the building on "42 Virginia Street" is being used for now, and what it was in the past?

All the windows are blacked out and the main door is always closed.

I know Virginia Street was where a lot of the Tobacco merchants had the HQ's, was this one of them?

Cheers

42 Virginia Street, Glasgow

1853 Gas Light Company Offices

1893 Willis, Nelson & Co, Straw Hat Manufacturers & Warehousemen

1904 Russell, McFarlane & Co Ltd, Scotch Tweed Manufacturers & Warehouse Woollen Merchants

1927 Wallace & Weir Ltd who's later address is given as 26 Argyle Street

1962 to at least 1975 Stirlings (Glasgow) Ltd. Warehousemen who's later address is given as 26 Argyle Street

were Virginia Street and Argyle Street connected by the warehouse?
